An Tara are a duo comprised of Tommy Hayes & Matthew Noone that explores the spaces in-between the traditions of Irish traditional and Indian Classical music.   They have performed at major contemporary and traditional music festivals across Ireland and toured South India being the only western performers at the prestigious Thyagaraja festival in Tamil Nadu.  Their live performances have developed a legendary status for their free-flowing improvisation, musical interplay, and intensity.

Matthew ‘mattu’ Noone, an ex-indie rocker and well-known performer of the 25 stringed lute called sarode, has studied North Indian Classical music in Kolkata under Sougata Roy Chowdhury and from UK based sarodiya, K. Sridhar for well over a decade.  He has recorded with Sean Tyrell, Ronan O’ Snodaigh collaborated with Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill in a 2-week tour of India.  In 2015 he was invited to perform at the Masters of Tradition festival in Bantry House, Cork.

Meanwhile, in a career that has exemplified diversity, bodhran player Tommy Hayes has performed and recorded with most of the great names in traditional music and beyond, has been at the forefront of Irish music for over 30 years. He was a founding member of the traditional group, Stockton’s Wing and is considered one of the greatest bodhran players on the planet.
