A performed reading of Seamus Heaney’s Most Popular Works

‘AwhilLARRY POSTER 2017.sige with Seamus Heaney‘ Sunday 4th June 8pm

A personal journey by Irish actor-director, Larry McCluskey through the late Nobel Poet’s best and most popular work, a dramatic reading, with linking commentary and live music.

The poet was a contemporary of mine – and very much in the news during the “Northern troubles”. I liked and bought his poetry and the way he conducted himself as an artist in a turbulent time, particularly re his native Ulster. On a personal level, we qualified as teachers about the same time, he gave a lecture in my school when I was Principal, I commissioned a poem from him for the Irish Education “Decision Maker” magazine (edited by Tralee’s Dr Barney O’Reilly!) we both served terms on The Arts Council – and, of course, we met occasionally at arts events, including his poetry readings, which were extremely popular – he was a terrrific communicator, with a mischievous humour. He set a very high standard for anyone who would dare to follow in his reading-footsteps!” – Larry McCluskey

The journey moves from Heaney’s childhood, through his emergence as Ireland’s foremost poet, international eminence and awards, to the 1995 Nobel Prize for Literature. Heaney was not just Ireland’s finest modern poet – he was a Colossus on the World literary stage and a wise commentator in the long journey to the Irish Peace Process. The reading ends with the poet’s powerful late work, health setback and unexpected death last year.

A performed reading, in authentic Ulster accent, with live music, of the late Irish Nobel Poet’s best and most popular work. Experience the broad sweep, the majesty and intimacy of Ireland’s finest poet since Yeats. Tickets €12/ €10. Booking on 066 9478956 /
