Stone to Bronze Age

autumn 2018 workshopsStone to Bronze Age
Saturday 10th November 10.00am – 3.00pm / 1 day
Recent copper mine discoveries on Lamb’s Head, Caherdaniel
(including a discovery by your guide) in addition to the previously
known ‘copper caves’ in the area and Bronze Age copper mines on
Ross Island highlight the importance of Iveragh in Ireland’s transi-
tion from the Stone Age to the metal ages. A talk at Tech Amergin
discussing this transition and a description of the processes involved
in smelting copper is followed by a short field trip over boggy hilly
terrain to recently discovered copper workings on Lamb’s Head,
near Caherdaniel. Suitable walking clothes including sturdy walk-
ing boots essential. Car pooling. Fee €30. Aoibheann Lambe
