The story so far…

In response to the fact that 70% of hives in the Ballinskelligs, Waterville area were lost in the cold wet summers of 2016/17 the Community Garden group at Tech Amergindecided to commit to finding a solution to this disaster. The idea of Gort na mBeach  was born.

The establishment of Gort na mBeach will ensure a continuing food supply to the honey bees to encourage a growing population and to prevent further decimation of our honey bee population.

Gort na mBeach will be in a designated area of the Community Garden.  A winding path will take you between a bed for each month of the year demonstrating which plants that grow in this area will provide nectar and pollen for our bees.

Gort na mBeach will be stocked with plants that will feed the honey bees all year round. Gort na mBeach will be wheelchair and pushchair accessible. There will be various types of information to suit all members of the community.

Many people ask “What can we do to help the bees and other pollinators? “  This will show exactly what you can do.

There will be an information board with all donors ’names and we will provide a plaque for all donors showing their support for Gort na mBeach.
