Pairc na Beácha

In response to the fact that 70% of hives in the Ballinskelligs, Waterville area were lost in the cold wet summers of 2016/17 the Community Garden group decided to commit to finding a solution to this disaster. The idea of Pairc na Beácha was born.

The establishment of Pairc na Beácha will ensure  a continuing food supply to the honey bees to encourage a growing population and to prevent further decimation of our honey bee population.

Pairc na Beácha will be in a designated area of the Community Garden.  A winding path will take you between a bed for each month of the year demonstrating which plants that grow in this area will provide nectar and pollen for our bees.

Pairc na Beácha will be stocked with plants that will feed the honey bees all year round. Pairc na Beácha will be wheelchair and push chair accessible. There will be signage to suit all members of our community.

Many people ask “What can we do to help the bees and other pollinators?“  This will show exactly what you can do.

There will be an information board with all donors ’names and we will provide a plaque for all donors showing their support for Pairc na Beácha.
